No end to the Guided Busway fiasco

by johnwilliams on 25 July, 2016

Almost a year ago Cambridgeshire County Council and BAM Nuttall launched a six month investigation into movement of the track foundations and the joints between the guideway beams.  The county put on hold legal action pending the outcome of the investigation.

Now we are told at the meeting of the full council last Tuesday that nearly a year on the investigation has still not come to a conclusion.

You’ll remember that Conservatives said the Guided Busway wouldn’t cost council taxpayers a penny to build.  Some £30 million later we are facing yet more cost to council taxpayers in legal fees and repair costs.  Money we could have spent on front line services.

It is clear now that the rail alternative would have been cheaper and – it has come to pass after so many accidents – safer too.
