Cambridgeshire Conservatives’ Actions Damage Hopes of Better Bus Services in Cambridge

by johnwilliams on 5 January, 2020

At the December meeting of Cambridgeshire County Council Conservative councillors passed a rather bizarre motion to improve air quality in the city of Cambridge by attacking public transport.

It included plans to prevent generation of revenue from congestion charging (needed to invest in public transport), to consider allowing electric vehicles to travel in bus lanes (which would jeopardize the bus priority measures) and to propose free parking for electric vehicles in Cambridge whilst allowing other vehicles access (which would perpetuate congestion in the city centre which is the main cause of the unreliability of the buses).

It is very clear from this behavior that Conservatives just haven’t the back bone to take decisive measures to get to grip with the current grid lock, which can only be solved with a reliable public transport network.
