As shared services worsen Tories cancel council meeting

by johnwilliams on 12 June, 2017

Today South Cambridgeshire District Council failed to empty the green bins in seven streets in Fulbourn village.

Since the Conservatives introduced new kerbside collection rounds for our black, green and blue bins jointly with the City Council every week someone in Fulbourn has failed to have their bin emptied. This time the council says it was because of “staff shortages” and the bins will be emptied tomorrow. Last week it was because of the Bank Holiday (and so it goes on).

The South Cambs refuse collection service was once a model for other councils to follow with a re-cycling rate that was one of the best in the country. But with year after year of Conservative cuts its not anymore.

Its no wonder the Conservative run council has cancelled next month’s full council meeting rather than face the scrutiny of the Liberal Democrat opposition, with other “shared” council services such as building and planning control facing similar troubles of staff shortages and IT breakdowns.

The next full council is planned for the end of September (if its not cancelled) and don’t worry we won’t forget.
