South Cambridgeshire spends most on climate change in the East of England

by johnwilliams on 30 October, 2019

Liberal Democrat South Cambridgeshire District Council is spending more to tackle climate change than any other council in the East of England according to the environmental journalism website De-Smog.  According to De-Smog Devon County Council and Oxford City Council are the only councils spending more on climate change compared to South Cambs.

Having pledged last year to have South Cambridgeshire carbon zone by 2050 the council has set about making its own operations as green as possible starting with solar panels at its waste depot and a Zero Carbon Community Fund to help its communities to introduce energy saving  initiatives from  water drinking fountains to ground heat systems.

In the pipeline are more solar panels on council properties, the conversion of council owned street lights to LED and the use of electric powered bin lorries.

A review of its Local Plan is also toughening up what it expects of developers in achieving the council’s policy of being Green to its Core.
