Lib Dem Councillor for Fulbourn Learn more

When I was little I used to get taken on day excursions to Southend “on Sea” and one of the highlights of the trip was a ride along the “front” on an open top double deck bus – not least because when you got to the pier you had to duck your heads as the bus went under it (no health and safety rules in those days!)
But soon you may be able to do the same on the guided busway, because incredibly the road bridges across the busway between Cambridge Station and Trumpington Park and Ride aren’t high enough for the double deck buses bought by Stagecoach to run on the busway!
This also includes the Park and Ride buses, which will have to continue to battle their way along Trumpington Road while the busway remains gloriously empty.
So here’s an idea. Why not use open top buses and lets have fun ducking our heads under the guided busway bridges. I have a feeling though that the health and safety police wouldn’t allow it.
