Not waiting for the outcome of his bus review the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor made a veiled threat to the future of the county’s subsidized bus services today when announcing the continued funding of four bus routes until the end of the current financial year in March 2019.
There is no public funding for buses after the end of next March. This year the Mayor who is responsible for public transport delegated subsidizing buses to the County Council. But he now says bus operators should not expect him to support uneconomic services in the future.
We have seen Stagecoach put on hold investment in local bus services because of the uncertainty. While the Mayor has halted work by the Greater Cambridge Partnership to improve bus reliability.
