Liberal Democrats now in control of South Cambridgeshire District Council

by johnwilliams on 23 May, 2018

Today at the Annual General Meeting of South Cambridgeshire District Council control of the Council passed to the Liberal Democrats.

With 30 out of the 45 councillors we have a good working majority for the next four years.

The Cabinet has been slimmed down to seven from the “jobs for the boys” Tory predecessor, with four of the portfolio holders being women.

The new Leader of the Council Cllr Bridget Smith pledged to speed up the delivery of ‘truly affordable’ and keyworker housing along with a commitment to put green issues high on the authority’s agenda. She also said the new council would support local businesses with the fallout from Brexit.

I’m the Finance Portfolio Holder tasked amongst other things with finding the funds and land to deliver new homes that ordinary people can afford to buy and rent, along with the infrastructure such as health services, schools and public transport to support them.

Its going to be tough but I’m looking forward to the challenge!
