We are in favour of proper devolution which really does devolve powers down to local people.

But the Tory plan for one East of England authority with Norfolk and Suffolk included, led by a Mayor is not not devolution – it is the exact opposite.

And we are being asked to sign a deal without knowing what the deal is, how it will benefit residents or even if it is what you want.

We do know it creates over five quangos as well as an over arching authority for the East of England. This is the opposite of devolution of power to local people.

This shotgun marriage with Norfolk and Suffolk has little to offer the residents of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and it will end in an unhappy divorce.
