Newmarket replacement bus starts today

by johnwilliams on 12 June, 2012

It went right to the wire whether or not A&P Travel would receive approval from the Traffic Commissioner for the Newmarket replacement bus service.

In the end with just an hour to go the news came that it had and that the bus would run its first journey on time from Teversham to Newmarket via Fulbourn, the Wilbrahams and Six Mile Bottom.  A crowd gathered at the Six Bells bus stop in the High Street and the bus left for Newmarket with 17 passengers!  Given there’s been no publicity for this other than by word of mouth and by letters and email from me and Fulbourn Forum this is not a bad result.

Now we must get the timetable posted on the Stagecoach owned bus stops.  The only thing to disappoint was that the bus did not have a low floor and wide entrance as per the county county contract and this is being taken up with the Cambridge Future Transport team.

The service runs on Tuesdays and Fridays only with the bus leaving Teversham at 10:21 (10:30 at the Six Bells), returning from Newmarket bus station at 13:30.  For timetable go to:

The parish councils and Fulbourn Forum are meeting up again next month with county council officers to review how the service is going and to draw up a marketing plan to ensure its future.

  1. Dear John,

I’ve left a link to your blog article underneath the timetable for the new bus and a few lines from David Cottee of Fulbourn Forum. Hope this is ok.
